Does it really need to be mentioned that the Cruze is FWD in the trim description in the lower right corner? Unless GM plans on making an AWD Cruze, which I highly, highly doubt.

As a side note: When am I actually going to be able to configure one of these Chevy? I don’t wanna configure a stupid Cruze Limited.

Yes, because most people know nothing about power trains but do "know" that FWD is 'safe'.

That is interesting. I don’t think the average person understands or cares fwd vs rwd. I know one person who prefers fwd or awd because she lives where they get snow. I have been coming across more people who want awd “in case it snows”. I live in Georgia. It rarely snows and when it does everything closes so there's no where to drive to anyway. Plus, our roads are icy, not snow covered. Doesn't matter what or how many wheels you have driven on ice if you have standard all seasons or Eco tires on.

Maybe it’s like how universities started adding the city of their main campus. Back in the day, you only added the location if it wasn't the main location. Or it could be like when FWD first got popular for its safety in the early 80s, so they're pitching it as a selling point.

Well, GM does make the new Cruze on the Delta 2 platform, a version of which also under pins the Buick Envision, a vehicle with available all wheel drive. It's not out of the realm of posibility GM may offer it at some point as the architecture may support it, but it is unlikely.

To me thats like saying since the focus and escape are on the same platform then the focus should get AWD. It does but it wasnt a quick swap, if I remember correctly they had to modify the subframe and then its only in the 35-40k RS. I would proclaim GM as the new Jesus if they made an RS fighter.
